The art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu was developed by Hélio and Carlos Gracie in the early 1920's from traditional Kodokan Judo. The Gracie family evolved Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu into a martial art and combat sport based on ground fighting (ne-waza) and submission holds. It focuses on the skill of taking an opponent to the ground, controlling one's opponent, gaining a dominant position, and using a number of techniques to force them into submission via joint locks or chokeholds.

Gracie Humaitá in Montgomery, TX is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy operated by Vincent and Krista Anzelone under the direct lineage of Professor JW Wright, Master David Adiv and Master Royler Gracie.

We started our academy with these clear goals in mind:

  • Teach students how to defend themselves
  • Prepare students for competition
  • Promote physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle
  • Create the most positive and safest possible environment for our members

Lineage

Lineage matters! Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is a highly complex and technical martial art and sport. Understanding the details of each technique are extremely important. Jiu-Jitsu is very often compared to the game of chess and for good reason. Skill, strategy and technical ability far outweigh physical ability and aggression.

Gracie Humaitá in Brazil was the very first Brazilian jiu-jitsu academy in the world when it was established by Grandmaster Hélio Gracie. Since that time, the art and sport of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu has evolved and become incredibly popular throughout the United States and beyond.

Our academies here in Montgomery and Willis, TX are official Gracie Humaitá academies and part of the Gracie Humaitá Association. We have a direct lineage to the origins of Gracie Jiu-Jitsu itself!

Jiu-Jitsu is a fantastic activity for everyone, especially children. This is a martial art, an extra curricular activity, a sport that your child can do their entire lives. At our academy, they will build classroom skills that will benefit them for years to come in school and beyond. Owner/Coach Krista Anzelone has a degree in Early Childhood Development and a strong background as a tenured first grade teacher . She enjoys spending time with, "the little ones" which is one of the many reasons why we are so proud of our kids program!

Jiu-Jitsu isn't just a martial art and/or sport, it's an amazing social activity. Children and adults alike form and maintain strong friendships that last forever. The community that develops in and around jiu-jitsu academies is special and is one of the main goals of Gracie Humaitá Montgomery and Willis, TX. We want to create a safe, clean, healthy environment where everyone feels welcome and part of our jiu-jitsu family.

Children who train jiu-jitsu develop a high level of confidence and control. Jiu-Jitsu is a full-contact, combat sport and martial art. Kids who train with us practice this each and every day and are better equipped to handle real life altercations when they arise. We also teach them how better to avoid such situations and how to navigate difficult scenarios that they may encounter throughout their lives.

Also... jiu-Jitsu is FUN for kids! We regularly have parties for the little ones, celebrate birthdays and holidays, participate in competitions and find every excuse we can to HAVE FUN!
